ARCHIMED HEALTHCARE IT acquires 3verest, a private sovereign cloud provider for medical imaging

3verest hosts and protects the imaging data that radiology departments rely on for diagnosis, under the laws of the country that data belongs to, and is expanding into cardiology and pathology.

The HEALTHCARE IT team of global private equity healthcare specialist ARCHIMED is partnering with 3verest, acquiring a majority stake in the company. Its founder and CEO, Scott Crawford, who built the business from the ground up without outside capital, remains a significant shareholder and continues to lead the company.

Founded in 2016 and headquartered in London, with offices in Sydney, Chicago and Munich, 3verest is a healthcare-dedicated private, sovereign cloud infrastructure provider. It owns and operates its own infrastructure rather than reselling capacity from a global hyperscaler, so that the data it holds sits not only in the region a provider chooses but under that region’s legal jurisdiction. It hosts and secures the medical imaging data that clinicians use every day, particularly in radiology. Its infrastructure supports healthcare institutions in the EU, the UK, US, Canada, and in the Asia-Pacific, where performance, interoperability, and data protection are critical to diagnosis. The company works closely with leading Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS) vendors and holds a multi-jurisdiction certification stack, including a Systems and Organization Controls 2 (SOC 2) audit attestation of its security controls.  “On a hyperscaler you choose a region and hope,” says ARCHIMED Partner Anthony Farias. “The capacity is pooled, the replicas move, and the parent company still answers to a foreign court. On 3verest you can name the datacenter, the operating entity, and the jurisdiction and that doesn’t shift.”

Medical imaging creates one of the most demanding workloads in healthcare. A single hospital archive runs to petabytes (one petabyte equals some 500 billion pages of standard printed text) and grows every year; studies must be retained for decades and returned to a radiologist in seconds, and a migration cannot interrupt a clinical service that never stops. Imaging is growing in volume, size, and complexity, while healthcare providers are moving sensitive patient data to private, sovereign cloud environments with enhanced security. By keeping imaging data instantly available, secure, and compliant in complex regulatory and security environments, 3verest contributes to faster, more reliable diagnoses for patients.

Working closely with Crawford and his team, ARCHIMED will accelerate 3verest’s development through its MedValue template – ARCHIMED’s levers for accelerating the growth of partnering companies via internationalization, innovation and product range expansion. As an investor working exclusively in healthcare, with offices across North America, Europe, the Middle East and Asia, ARCHIMED brings both the technology expertise and the provider-side knowledge that scaling clinical infrastructure into new jurisdictions requires.

“Sovereignty has moved from a procurement footnote to a mandate condition, and very few providers can provide it. 3verest can take that capability into new countries and new clinical specialties. Every health system we speak to is planning for AI on its imaging estate. 3verest already operates the necessary infrastructure, and owning it is what lets a provider say yes to AI without giving up control of the data it runs on,” says Farias.

“With ARCHIMED, we can extend 3verest services well beyond radiology into cardiology, pathology and other imaging-intensive specialities, which run on the same infrastructure and carry the same obligations,” says Crawford. “It is an opportunity not to be missed.”

“We’ll focus on extending 3verest’s presence in continental Europe, broadening its certifications, and deepening its partnerships with imaging vendors”.

ARCHIMED’s HEALTHCARE IT team targeted care-provider software and infrastructure as a priority investment area through MedSeg, ARCHIMED’s proprietary sector analysis tool covering 500+ sub-segments of the health industry. 3verest was identified as a sector leader through MedDiscover, a proprietary set of tools and processes permitting ARCHIMED to identify and effectively engage with leading companies.

ARCHIMED purchased its majority stake in 3verest through the MED III fund, which closed on €650 million in 2021. MED III and all ARCHIMED funds that are significantly invested (those closed in 2022 or before) are at least top quartile buyout performers for their vintages, according to Preqin data (2026).
